Romantic Dinner Done Right: Our Night at XO Brasserie
If you’re looking for the perfect date night dinner in Charleston, XO Brasserie is exactly what you need. Located in the NOMO area of Charleston, this restaurant brings a much-needed modern, upscale Chinese experience to the thriving culinary scene. From the gorgeous interior that sets a romantic tone to the impeccable service (Hope was our waitress, and she’s an absolute rockstar—so friendly and attentive), this place truly knows how to make a night out unforgettable.
The drinks were the perfect start to our evening—well-balanced, refreshing, and beautifully garnished. We sipped on the Venom of the New Year, made with mezcal, fiero, shochu, blackberry, and apple soda, which was smoky and fruity in all the right ways. We also tried the Mai Tai Pear Chai, a blend of light and spiced rums, Asian pear, lime, and chai orgeat, which was smooth, spicy, and absolutely delightful.
For starters, we shared the Youtiao Burrata—an innovative dish with a Chinese Cruller, Serrano Chili Soy, sesame, scallion, and a honey drizzle. It was an unexpected twist on flavors that set the stage for a truly special meal. The XO Wontons, filled with pork, shrimp, bamboo, onion, and chili soy, were the perfect combination of savory and satisfying. The Siu Mai (our personal favorite), with pork, shiitake, scallions, and black vinegar soy, was the perfect bite to continue our culinary journey.
When it came to the main course, we had the Whole Red Snapper with Chef Specialty Preparation, which was beautifully prepared and roasted inside a banana leaf and expertly seasoned. The fish was fresh, flaky, and bursting with flavor. We also opted for the caviar sauce supplement, which added a luxurious touch that elevated the dish even further. But of course, the Hong Kong Roast Duck, served with fresh herbs, chili cucumbers, steamed pancakes, and a bold five pepper sauce, was another showstopper—rich and perfectly balanced in every bite.
To cap off our perfect date night, we indulged in the Midnight Snack, a creative dessert made with Fruity Pebbles, fried Silk Road bao bun, and miso cream cheese. Sweet, savory, and full of fun surprises, it was the ideal way to end a memorable evening.
